Looking at the Wrong Place

Hear the voice
Heed their words
But not out of obligation

Do something if you must
If you see nothing wrong with it
No matter how unique
No matter how some unreasonably see it unfit

That your life is your own
That concern can hurt when shown
That love can, indeed, be restricting
Vengeful, selfish

And when you’ve loved and understood
Bent over backwards when you could
Tirelessly reached out for both your good
Yet still unfairly judged, still ridiculed

Maybe you’ve been in the dark too long
Kept hidden from the light
Cause that light, they say, is wrong
Don’t punish yourself for being right
Your place is not here,

You looked too long at the wrong side
